Howdy! We will get our 5 yr.old jersey in a few weeks. She is currently being milked twice daily by machine at a dairy. I hope she'll adapt well to hand pumping and at her side, but if she doesn't right off, I want to be prepared. What do I look for in a complete portable milking machine? I don't want guess work to begin with, meaning, I want a step by step system so the milking will be a success!! Thanks.

Unless you have hand milked a cow before I recommend getting a portable milk machine such as the CLC refurbished Surge belly milker and Dairyland Porta-Vac vacuum pump for $750.00 on this site. I bought one two years ago and has worked well for us. You will still need items to clean her udder and store and process the milk. But these you would need regardless. Also visit
